T.E.D./Anti-Embolism Socks

Anti-embolism stockings, also called T.E.D. stockings, are designed to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or blood clots, and are used for immobile patients that are bedridden (often after surgery).

T.E.D. compression is not graduated, it is at the same level throughout the garment, which is typically 8 - 18 mmHg. The purpose of anti-embolism stockings is to increase blood circulation and prevent DVT during inactivity.

One pair of anti-embolism stockings is typically good for up to 3 weeks. If the period of immobility lasts beyond this, the stockings must be replaced in order to be effective. If the patient is no longer bedridden and is able to or is already increasing their activity but still requires a boost in circulation, it is recommended to switch to graduated compression stockings.

There are two different styles of anti-embolism stockings--knee high, and thigh high. Generally made from a blend of nylon and spandex fabrics, these stockings come in a variety of sizes for both men and women.

To properly care for your stockings, machine wash in lukewarm water with delicate fabric detergent and tumble dry on low heat. Do not bleach, dry clean, or iron.
